Cutlass Cade the Pirate

Pirates attacked ships and raided coastal towns in search of valuable cargo, hostages, and illicit profit. Most piracy occurred near busy shipping routes and major ports. From the late 1500s through the 1600s, pirates and corsairs often sailed under Letters of Marque, government licenses allowing them to attack enemy shipping, while others operated purely as outlaws.

The Golden Age of Piracy (1650–1730) saw maritime raiding flourish across the Caribbean and Atlantic, fueled by expanding global trade and weak colonial enforcement. Legendary figures such as Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Henry Morgan, Anne Bonny, and Black Bart became some of the most famous pirates in history.
